2024 WIT Girls: Girl of the Year (GOTY)

WIT's Women of the Year in STEAM Awards celebrate female visionaries, ground-breakers in business, and remarkable leaders who make a difference in our community. 

Award winners will be announced at the WIT Awards Gala on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

Applications will close July 31, 2024, at 11:59PM EST

Judging day will take place in person during business hours. Date TBD.

Description

The WIT Girl of the Year award will be presented to a young woman with exemplary achievement and dedication to STEAM studies. She is fully engaged in the program, attentive, actively participates, and encourages others. Her participation in the WIT Programs and STEAM academics should create a lasting and positive impression on the WIT sponsors and mentors. She must:

  • Be a registered member of the WIT Girls program
  • Demonstrate interest in STEAM fields
  • Demonstrate leadership in STEAM-related activities
  • Act as a role model or shows how they are giving back
  • Must have attended at least three WIT Girls programs in 2023-2024
  • Georgia must be your primary residence
  • Currently enrolled in a Georgia school as a Junior or Senior in High School
  • Complete the WIT Girls: Girl of the Year application
  • Be in good academic standing, GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Must be available for promotional WIT opportunities. WIT understands each girl may have limitations that could interfere with her commitment and WIT will work with the winner to accommodate scheduling conflicts
  • Be able to become the 2024 Girl of the Year Ambassador of the WIT Girls program, advocating for girls in STEAM
  • Have a parent or guardian sign the WIT Girls GOTY application and agree that the girl’s image and name can be used by WIT for promotional purposes
  • * Note: All scholarship winners will not be eligible to apply for another WIT scholarship until 24 months after winning. 

    Application Requirements:

  • Answer three (3) essay questions
  • Provide a copy of your most recent report card or transcript
  • Must submit 1 recommendation from a guidance counselor or a teacher and 1 recommendation from a peer. (Please note: Peer Recommendation is due upon submission, Teacher Recommendation will be due if you are chosen as a finalist)
  • Provide a copy of your bio
  • Attach a high-resolution profile photo
  • Must be able to attend WIT Women of the Year in STEAM Awards Gala
  • Must be a US citizen

Evaluation Criteria

A selection committee composed of individuals from diverse backgrounds will review the nomination applications and get them down to the top-rated and ranked nominees. A panel of distinguished judges will evaluate top nominees and select the recipients for each of the awards.
